I walking through this neighborhood with an acting crew with a black male leader who was making a film and I remember it being lightly based on racism or an impasse between black and whites. I remember suggesting ideas to improve the script and flow, which seemed to be well received. however, once we watched the film, it was distorted because the male director chose not to listen to my suggestions. i didn't take it personally. As we walked through one of the scenes, there was a house where lots of old white people were dancing outside in the yard. it was a day party of some sort. the old white women were spinning and twirling and I was admiring their freedom and joy and imagined myself doing the same at their age. as I drove through in my truck, something went wrong with the tires and one of them seemed to be flat. I called the person I was buying the truck from (a white man) and told him there was an issue with the tires. by that time i was writing with two black men who seemed to be my father and grandfather or brother as we pulled into a shopping center at night. the white man was responsive and had the truck towed to a shopping center where i was located, but there were no tires on it! the truck was sitting on its bare rims and i remember thinking, I'd have to but new tires all around. when I called the owner back, I was telling him I'd located two tires places i could patronize and he told me he'd already arranged for a tire place to come to me the next morning, which i remember thinking that I would have to spend the night with the truck. he also told me the price, which was far cheaper than i was imagining. that's when I realized the big passenger front tire was still on the truck and I remember thinking I'd still buy four new tires instead of three to keep the wear even. the white man owner told me I didnt have to do that and I wondered if he would sell me the truck outright. I thanked him for being so responsive (versus taking his time and leaving me stranded) because I was really appreciative of his proactive approach.
